Shoulder Pain Treatment

Rotator cuff, impingement, and frozen shoulder care

The shoulder trades stability for mobility — the most range of motion of any joint, held together largely by muscle. That makes it powerful and vulnerable: rotator cuff irritation, impingement, and frozen shoulder are among the most common problems we treat, and among the most responsive to skilled physical therapy.

Common shoulder problems

  • Rotator cuff strains and tendinopathy — pain reaching overhead or behind the back
  • Impingement — pinching at certain angles, often with overhead activity
  • Frozen shoulder — progressive stiffness, often after a period of not using the arm
  • Post-surgical recovery — cuff repairs and shoulder replacements
  • Instability — shoulders that feel loose or slip after dislocation

Why shoulders need a full-chain approach

The shoulder blade, mid-back, and even the hips contribute to every reach and throw. Treating just the sore spot misses the mechanics that made it sore. Your plan restores motion where it’s missing, strength where it’s lacking, and coordination across the whole chain — which is why one-on-one coached sessions matter for this joint more than almost any other.

Common questions

Did I tear my rotator cuff?
Possibly — but partial-thickness cuff changes are extremely common and often pain-free. Many confirmed tears do well without surgery. Your evaluation sorts out whether conservative care or a surgical consult is the right first step.
Why does my shoulder hurt at night?
Night pain is classic for cuff irritation — lying on the shoulder compresses irritated tissue. It typically improves as treatment calms the tendon.
How long does frozen shoulder take?
Untreated, it can run one to three years. Skilled therapy shortens the course and keeps you functional through it — and rules out the stiff shoulders that aren’t actually frozen shoulder.
