Your first visit, without the mystery.
Here’s exactly what happens when you become a StepWell patient — from the first phone call to your first plan of care.
Before your first visit
Call or text (732) 705-6211 or book online. We’ll verify your insurance benefits and tell you any costs up front, send you brief intake forms you can complete from your phone, and answer any questions — including whether you need a referral (most patients don’t, thanks to New Jersey direct access).
What to bring & wear
- Photo ID and insurance card (or claim info for workers’ comp / auto)
- Any imaging reports, surgical protocols, or physician notes you have — helpful, not required
- Comfortable clothes that let us see and treat the area — shorts for knees and hips, a tank or tee for shoulders and neck
Your first appointment
Plan for about an hour, one-on-one with your Doctor of Physical Therapy. You’ll talk through your story and goals, move through a thorough evaluation, and — this matters — treatment starts on day one. You leave with hands-on care done, your first exercises taught, and a plain-language explanation of what’s driving the problem and how long recovery should take.
After that
Most plans run two visits a week at the start, tapering as you take over with your home program. Every plan has milestones; if you’re not hitting them, we adjust the plan — we don’t just extend it. You’ll never wonder whether it’s working, because we measure and show you.
